Relocation Assistance & Rental Increase Notices

Relocation Assistance

If you live in the City of Portland and receive a No Cause Termination Notice or a Rent Increase Notice, you may have the right to a relocation assistance payment from your landlord.  This guide will help you find out if you are eligible for relocation assistance and provide instructions for claiming your relocation assistance payment.

Rental Increase Notices

This handbook has information about the laws that landlords have to follow when raising the rent. If your landlord doesn’t follow the law, you may be able to delay or avoid having your rent go up. These rules apply to all kinds of tenancies in Oregon, including tenancies for manufactured homes, RVs, or floating homes.

NOTE: Due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Portland Relocation Assistance law has been temporarily changed to allow for any tenant in the City of Portland who receives a rent increase in any amount that goes into effect between September 16, 2020 and March 31, 2021 to have the right to ask for relocation assistance as outlined in this guide. For any rent increase that goes into effect on April 1, 2020 or later, the rent increase must increase a tenant's rent by 10% or more over the last 12 months in order for the tenant to be eligible for relocation assistance.
